Fiji Islands

Fiji is comprised with a little over 300 islands and is located in the South Pacific Ocean about 2000 km northeast of New Zealand's North Island.Fiji was a British colony up until 1970; British occupation lasted almost a century.

English is the official language and is the language of instruction in education, and is spoken by most in Nadi, Suva and any other major tourist area. Fijian or Hindustani (Hindi/Urdu) is spoken by most adults and children.

The population is mainly consisted of the following ethnic groups: Fijian 51%, Indian 44%, European and other Pacific Islanders, Chinese and other 5%. Fiji is free of most tropical diseases including malaria. Take a mosquito repellent regardless, and lots of sunblock. Fiji has one of the world's lowest crime rates. Room safes or safe deposit boxes available in all hotels and resorts.
